Fall is in the air and even though we were sad to say goodbye to summer, we are ready to kick off the new season! Fall brings things like National Hispanic Heritage month and new wardrobe options!

If you have not checked out our newly released fall fashion line, read Brand Champion Veronica’s latest blog post for more details!

As we mentioned, this month we joined America in celebrating Hispanic Heritage. Sword & Plough is a Hispanic women-owned business founded by our CEO and COO, Emily and Betsy. Emily and Betsy will be participating in speaking events around the country this year and we encourage you to learn more about their story. The next opportunity to hear Emily speak will be at the Military Influencer Conference in Dallas, Texas on October 23-24, 2017.

Emily and Betsy also attended the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest Summit earlier this month as the Grand Prize recipient! FedEx hosted an impactful and meaningful weekend with all ten Small Business Grant Contest award recipients. Emily and Betsy loved getting to know the founders, whose industry focuses ranged from healthy food with Funky Fresh Spring Rolls to STEM science kits for girls with Yellow Scope. The FedEx team asked the attending founders what logistics challenges they were facing and shared ideas about how FedEx could help provide solutions. One of the best parts of the summit was touring the FedEx Hub where thousands of packages are sorted every minute! We’re thrilled to work with an organization that supports small businesses and veterans, and so happy to be part of the FedEx family.

In addition to the major milestone of attending the FedEx Small Business Grant Contest Summit event this month, Sword & Plough created 300 custom Screen Printed Tote bags for the crew of Florentine Films. Florentine Films produced the landmark documentary The Vietnam War, which was directed by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. This must see documentary is an 18 part series that features testimonies from nearly 80 witnesses, including many who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as Vietnamese combatants and civilians from both winning and losing sides. We would love to make your custom gift for your next event or conference. Email us at info@swordandplough.com and we can discuss the best option for your group order.

If you want to check out our products in person, we continue to have pop up shops around the country. This month we held pop up shops in Minnesota, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Keep checking our Facebook page for updates on where to find us in person next.

Since Sword & Plough’s launch in 2013, we have made it a priority to donate 10% of our profits to veteran non-profit organizations that align with our mission to empower veterans and strengthen civil-military understanding. This month we supported The Joel Fund which works to provide online resources to guide veterans and their families to organizations that offer assistance in key areas such as rehabilitation, recreation, community involvement, and career readiness programs.

We were featured this month in Colorado’s own magazine, 5280 Magazine and MilitarySpouse.com. The article in MilitarySpouse.com was written by our own Brand Champion, Veronica Bryant, and highlighted the Brand Champion program. If you are interested in learning more about the Brand Champion program, consider reading about Sword & Plough Brand Champion of the Month Melissa Musick.

We can’t wait to tell you more next month! Thank you for being part of the Sword & Plough community!

Cheers,
The Sword & Plough team

Fall Fashion Not Fast Fashion: Why Our New Fall Products are a HUGE Deal

Posted on September 11, 2017 by Sword & Plough | 1 Comment

Leather Zipper Clutch

In case you missed it, Sword & Plough rolled out three new products this week, just in time for the fall season. The new pieces, the Brass Bar Bracelet, the Tie Tack, and the Leather Zipper Clutch, are all perfect additions to any fall looks. Dress them up for seasonal events like Thanksgiving dinners or down for polished, everyday style. These pieces are versatile enough to carry you well into the holiday season (and beyond).

Plus, each piece complements other products already in our jewelry and accessories section! The Brass Bar Bracelet and the Tie Tack are simply the latest beautiful pieces from veteran and artist Shanna Rodenberg for Sword and Plough. Rodenberg, who served eight years in the United States Army before leaving the service, also creates necklaces, cufflinks, tie bars, earrings, and rings hand hammered from repurposed 50 caliber shell casings. The Leather Zipper Clutch, produced in collaboration with our veteran leather craftsman Tim Kennedy, slips perfectly into any larger Sword and Plough urban bag and keeps smaller items from slipping out. Of course, it’s also stylish enough to carry alone.

We hope you find these new releases as exciting as we do. As a slow fashion brand, new releases don’t happen often—and that’s a good thing! As part of our core mission to reduce waste and minimize our carbon footprint, our ethical fashion brand stays away from the popular production methods of fast fashion companies. Generally, such companies prioritize mass producing new, inexpensive clothing and accessories which reflect current trends or fads (read: that $10 crop top that looked cool, but only got worn once). Trends come and go in the blink of an eye, which makes fast-fashion hard on wallets and the environment (it’s estimated that over 13 trillion pounds of textile waste currently sit in U.S. landfills).

That’s why Sword and Plough only creates investment pieces—products that take time to manufacture but last a lifetime. Our veteran-owned clothing company has given over 35,000 pounds of military surplus new life as bags, jewelry, and accessories fashionable enough to survive any trend, any decade. With our steadfast guarantee, you don’t have to worry about wear or tear; you can always send in your Sword and Plough product for repairs or replacements.

Now you know why our new fall collection is so special to us! A lot of thought went into each piece and we’re excited to see how you all incorporate these new items into your style. It’s a safe bet that I’ll be wearing the Brass Bar Bracelet with everything from flannel to cashmere this season. What about you? Just make sure to grab your favorites fast! Each piece is handmade and a limited quantity means there is the chance an item might sell out.

What new product in the Sword and Plough fall collection are you most excited about? What items would you like to see in future collections? Let us know in the comments below!

Brand Champions

The summer is winding down and Sword & Plough is ready for fall. This month our veteran-owned clothing company launched some amazing fall additions to our collection, welcoming the Leather Pouch, the Brass Bar bracelet, and the Tie Tack. Each of the products are priced under $100 and makes a unique addition to any outfit.

If you want to see our eco-friendly fashion in person, Sword & Plough has been taking the country by storm, launching pop up shops all over the U.S. and hopefully in a city near you! This month we visited Minnesota, New Mexico, and Colorado. Check out our Facebook page for weekly updates on where we will be headed next. We love when our fans stop by and say hello! Sword & Plough Brand Champions are eager to meet you in person and answer any questions you have about our products.

Brand Champions are instrumental to Sword & Plough’s success and we can not recognize their hard work enough! This month Sword & Plough celebrated one of the biggest milestones in the company’s history. On our one year anniversary of launching the Brand Champion program, we welcomed our 100th Brand Champion to the team! As of today, we have 100+ Brand Champions in over 40 states and 3 countries. We have women and men who are military spouses, veterans, reserve personnel, family members, and professionals from all different industries, and each of our Brand Champions come to the team with a unique background and involvement in their communities.

The program allows individuals to make an impact in the veteran community, earn Sword & Plough swag, receive personal coaching, earn income, and receive insider access to Sword & Plough products. Our Brand Champion of the month, Ben Soltero De Martin, summed up why he is excited to be on the Sword & Plough team with these words:

“The Brand Champion program works for me because it provides an opportunity to maintain my current responsibilities while giving back to those who serve our country. I not only get to speak on the importance of veteran employment and opportunities, but I also get paid, and look pretty stylish while doing it.”

Brand Champions help us bridge the civil military divide, which is core to our mission. This month our sustainable clothing brand donated to two organizations that are also bridging the gap by helping veterans in their communities. Check out the River Wellness Program Laughing for a Cause Comedy Event and the Veteran’s Legal Services to learn more about how they are making a difference!

Enjoy the last few days of summer!

Cheers,

The Sword & Plough team
